In most of the existing homes that we Energy Audit we find significant air-leakage around all of the electrical outlets, switches, and light fixtures. This can be seen in the Infrared Thermal Image at left of a typical home electrical outlet. This is why air-tight electrical boxes are important and we recommend them for any new construction project.

Easy To Install
The one-piece system is easy to install and easy to seal. AIRFOIL® products were designed with the builder in mind, so they go in like any typical electrical box. And they’re durable enough to withstand the rigors of construction. The single-gang box shown is screwed to the face of the stud then the wires are roughed-in and foam is sprayed into the small pockets at the top and bottom of the box. This seals the penetrations where the wires enter the box. Then a gasket is placed over the flange that surrounds the box so that the drywall seals tight to the box. This method is used in an “Airtight Drywall Approach”

Alternatively, if a vapor barrier is used, it can be tightly sealed to the flange of the AIRFOIL box as shown at left.
