Energy Efficient Design
.
Energetechs is dedicated to providing an integrated whole systems approach to architectural design, land planning, and construction administration services, with a particular emphasis on sustainable, high performance buildings. We utilize an integrated design approach to energy efficient design, sustainable development and construction.
We consider ourselves only one of many team members needed to creatively design, build and commission buildings that are comfortable, healthy, perform well and leave as small of a footprint as possible. Energy Efficient design can be accomplished as long as the goal is maintained throughout the entire process. The level of efficiency is up to our customers, however the performance goals will be measurably calculated and the building designed to meet those goals.
Energetechs’ understanding of building systems, construction details, product knowledge as well as mechanical system operation, design and implementation all help us to implement a beautiful design that works. Our general contracting experience helps us understand how the design decisions affect the building budget and complexity of implementation. All of this expertise helps us to provide our customers with energy efficient design that will fit any budget.
FAQ’s
Is Energy Efficient Design weird or boring?
Far from it, we think Energy Efficient Design is very exciting and it doesn’t have to be weird or boring by any means. Any building design can be made energy efficient, however there are some styles that are naturally easier to make energy efficient. There are some considerations relating to the size, orientation of the building, windows, and components of the building shell that will affect the design. Linear shaped buildings with clean lines achieve energy efficiency more simply than buildings with many cut up lines and changes in building plane. Simple roof designs can make it a lot easier to make a structure energy efficient as well.
What other team members are included in integrated design?
Although each project is unique and requires a unique team of individuals, the following list is the minimum for a successful, comprehensive approach to designing and building:
- Building Owner
- Energy Efficiency/Sustainability Company
- General Contractor
- Architect or Building Designer
- Landscape designer
How do you make sure that an Energy Efficient Design is built efficiently?
Any design should have performance specifications for how the building will operate once complete. If the specifications and design indicate how the building is to perform, the building team knows what is expected of the final product. With that said, it is important to walk through the process as a team to ensure that the goals are met. Commissioning (testing) the building for performance of the building envelope and mechanical systems will ensure all systems are operating correctly.
